These are "Grains of Selim" aka "Senegal Pepper, Djar, Uda, Moor & Kani Pepper". This is the main ingredient of a popular coffee in Senegal "Cafe Touba". They are described as being musky, having a similarity to cubeb pepper with nutmeg hints. When the whole pod is heated solely, the aroma is very strong. However, heating them in this way before grinding is a good method of enhancing the spice.
